I just replaced the tilt motor in my 1990 129 force hoping it would fix the problem of it leaking down and now the motor won't move. Any thoughts? I filled the reservoir with John Deere hydro fluid just because it was all I had on hand. Is it possible I put one of the lines in the wrong spot or does it just take a really long time to get all the air out?

most likely the armature is not properly seated. try taking pump off boat and seating armature. then run a bit of fluid through pump and into a bucket before installing.

Not yet. That is going to be step #2 if this doesn't fix it

Well I'm pretty sure I damaged the shaft from not puting it together correctly the first time. The shaft will not turn the valve body on the new pump but does on the old pump as if the shaft on the new pump isn't long enough. Any ideas before I buy a whole new assembly? Is it possible to swap shafts?

try cleaning it up with a file. the armature should have about 1/8" of float.

place motor upside down in vice
gently push down on armature tip until it is fully seated
use a caliper and straight edge to measure the drop.
I use a piece of 1/4" aluminum and add the 1/4" thickness to measurements
the end of shaft should be from 3/16" to 1/4" beneath the top edge of reservoir.
If your armature drops more than that then the brush cap is probably damaged.

API motors often came from factory without checking end play. If your motor is API and the end play is off by 1/16" inch or so then it may just need shims.

Ok now I'm upset. I just replaced the motor again and valve body and hooked it all up. The motor ran for all of about 6 seconds went up and down and holds pressure now. It stopped working now and the motor doesn't run. I can hear the relay click but nothing happens. Of course the motor is non returnable. Anything I can check before i drag this thing out to the curb?

Alright I figured out there's a circuit breaker but it keeps tripping because the motor Boggs down. If I just tap the switch a little at a time it works. It still leaks down but a lot slower. Any reason why the breaker keeps tripping?

The motor moves in opposite direction of the switch direction. Could that be part o my problem?

make sure all your contacts are clean starting from battery post to starter to relay and from engine block to relay ground. a dirty contact casue voltage drop which causes you to draw more amps for same work. if all your contacts are clean then it sounds like a bad circuit breaker.

just flip the motor wires into the relays and your switch direction will be okay.

Make sure your battery isnt going dead. The reduced voltage will cause the motor to draw too much current causing the breaker to trip.

Is there an aftermarket circuit breaker or another alternative available? I've tried searching around but everything I find says obsolete.
