I need to replace a 140 hp mercruiser engine in a 17 ft 1977 Bayliner mutiny. (Froze it in the garage last winter after 20 years of ownership)

Can anyone tell me how to determine whether a bigger engine such as the one below would work as a swap.

Make: MERCRUISER
Description: 4.3 V6 ENGINE (USED) (TEST RAN OK 4/10)

If you have any great sources for used engines that would be great to know as well.

Thanks for sharing.

You would need to change the sterndrive. 4.3L uses a different final drive ratio than a 3.0L

it'll "work" with a lot of extra parts and labor.
start with a different ratio gearset in your upper drive
then look for an exhaust Y pipe.
then plan to fabricate mounting pads for the engine mounts
