Replacement Fuel Pump?

Hey all,

I was able to get my Maxum in the water and running around this evening. I'm having a bit of a fuel issue though. When I would throttle up, I'd lose some RPM (it would bog down) then all of a sudden jump out of it and RPM would fly, I'd throttle back and it would bog down again. I'm assuming the motor's not getting enough fuel. It quit on me in the middle of the lake and I self-siphoned some fuel through the line to the fuel filter (this had worked previously) and was able to limp it back to the trailer.

I've been having a fuel issue since I put this replacement motor in. I've replaced the Fuel Filter, the siphon fitting, looked in the tank and it's clean, filled it with 25 gallons of fuel, and installed a rebuilt carb from National Carburetors. Last thing on my list, I guess, is to replace the fuel pump. Fuel pump that's on the motor now has a P/N: SAE J1171 Marine.

Looking for recommendations on which fuel pump to buy? Seems like there's a wide range of cheap options to Mercury $529 option.

1993 Maxum 1800SR - Mercruiser 4.3 93-95 (S/N: 0F438375).

Thanks!

Airtex makes replacement mechanical fuel pumps for the Mercruisers for far less than OEM. Used one on a 7.4 and worked perfectly.

Stay far away from the ChiCom knockoffs / odd ball names that cost 30 bux.
