I just switched out the engine on my boat and need to replace the ignition switch as well. The motor is a 89 50hp merc. I guess I just need to know what type and how many terminals on the switch. Not sure if this is enough info. Thanks for the help.

If it's the ignition switch on the dash, then that's about it. You might have off, on and start, or off, Acc, On and start. If it's on the motor, then its specific to the motor.

I just had to replace mine also. I went the easy route due to my wiring lloked like the previous guy was color blind and used a dull butterknife to strip them . I bought a push button start for mine and ran it to the 2 purple wires. Also i installed a hidden "kill switch" to the console so unless its turned on the motor wont crank

Thanks guys. I did some digging and found which one I need. It ended up being a six terminal one.
