Hello all, I have a power steering "ram" that started leaking fluid between the cable tube and the cylinder. I took it out and looked and can not find a part number on it - it looks like it has been painted (more than once?).

I have found several used replacements for it (based on what it looks like), but I would rather get something new or rebuilt. However, I can't find either online. Just used ones.

It is from a 1984 Mercruiser 260 system with an Alpha One outdrive. I am assuming it original. It seems this drive was replaced with the Gen II. Is that a "drop in" replacement?

Should I/Can I get this one rebuilt?

Here is a picture of the part:

thanks!

The reason why you can't find one new is because they don't make any more. I went through the same thing with mine. I upgraded to the newer style ram, and all you need is new hoses due to the fittings being different sizes. One is SAE and the other style ram is metric. Hope that helps.

Thank you guys for replying.

That does look like the one I am replacing on ebay, but if they are not making it anymore, then is it really new?! Or has it been sitting in box for 15 years? I sometimes don't trust the ebay sites. It may be fine, but...

TampaBoater - when you replaced yours all the bracket locations were the same? Just a drop in with new hose fittings?
Can you advice on the part #?

The one on ebay is kost likely used. Yes the newer style ram just drops right in to the samr bolt locations as the old one. If i remember correctly, you just might have to replace only one of the hoses not both. As far as a part number i dont know because when i bought the boat, the owner had bought the part arleady, i just installed it. You should be able to look up the part. Check out thundermarine.com on the left menu there is an oem part finder...i am prettu sure its listed.

If you are going to replace it with a new actuator, get the fittings and hoses with the QDs... Makes the whole job much easier, they are brass so you don't have any rust issues, and if you need to remove the actuator or engine in the future, the QDs make it so much quicker.

Thanks Chris,

Please advise: QD = "Quick Disconnect"? It looks like I need to get new hoses/connectors for the newer model anyways as it is not backward compatible.

Right on both counts... Hence me suggesting go straight to the QDs...

Where did you find the QDs for new actuator. I can only find oem hoses with QDs.
