G'day All, I have a '67 Evinrude 60HP SportFour that is fitted with a worn and slightly damaged aluminum prop. It is stamped 10 X 9 1/4. The boat is an open Fibreglass 15ft runabout made here in Australia. The bare hull weighs 460 lbs. It will be used mostly for fishing carrying one or two adults & gear. A little more straight line speed would be good for chasing suface action. Is this the best prop for my boat, or could I do better? What was the factory one? Thanks!

You need to find out what rpm you are running, then you need the operating rpm of the motor and go from there.

Thank. looks like I will need to fit a tacho. A basic automotive one should work with the Kettering ignition system. Operating range 4000-4500 rpm. Nowt i can do intil I know exactly what rpm the engine is doing at WOT. Cheers :)

If I recall correctly the 67 60hp. sport 4 had an odd ball gear ratio. Your 10 X 9 1/4 May be normal than we imagine. If you look up props for a 60 sport 4
here at iboats You will find props starting at 14" pitch going up to 23", way out of the range for the sport 4. Do you know your ratio?
You can figure ratio by pulling the plugs and count flywheel rotation for one prop rotation. You'll need to mark prop and flywheel to get it exact.

Your rpm, range is 4000 - 5000 rpm. You only have 3 props to choose from 10 x12, 10 1/8 x 11, and 10 x 9 1/4. Discontinued for many years are 10 1/4 x 10 and 9 1/2 x 10. The 9 1/2 x 10 was the prop shipped with your motor. There are a few 10 x 9 1/4 props on e-bay.

Iboats has no correct reference for props on these first generation V4s. The V4s from 1960 thru 1968 used a small gearcase with a 23:20 gear ratio. The only exceptions were the 60hp units with the 'heavy duty' gear case. That one had a 21:12 gear ratio and either a 13 x 13 or 12 x 14 prop. Also the 100 hp had a totally different gearcase and props

Thanks very much for the information. Ideally I would like 10 x 12 but I don't like my chances! I guess I will have to kee Po scanning Ebay and see what shows up.
Cheers William

None of the other props will fit. The odds of a 10 X 12 being the prop for you are between slim and none. As I said earlier, the 60 was shipped with the 9 1/2 X 10. The 75s and 90s were shipped with 10 1/4 X 10. In my opinion, the 10 X 9 1/4 will be the best choice for you. If your engine can attain 4500 - 5000 rpm you speed will be in the range of 23 - 32 mph with that prop

Well, an update. I found a very good used prop for my SportFour. Attached to an old engine . I bought the lot for $100. Looked all over the world for an affordable used one and found this old beast an hour and a half away!
