Replacement Voltage Regulator

I'm back again, this time for a little electrical advice. I have a 1964 (found out here) Evinrude Starflite 90s. A little history, I bought the boat used and the controls were not hooked up. I knew going in that it would be a project so I pulled up my pants and am diving head first into this.

Here's my question. I opened up the control box and found that the voltage regulator looked to be in pretty poor shape as if it had been sitting in a humid area for a while. The part number on the voltage regulator says:

Delco
GM
1944748
4C12

I tried looking on line and cannot locate this part number anywhere. I did find a reference in another blog that says the replacement is a CDI 193-8335 but when you see the image of the item it is different than what I took out of the control box. I realize that it is most likely a modern version of what I have now. My regulator has two prongs for attaching wires, then out of the bottom of it there are two wires, 1 red, 1 black that go to another little part. On the "so-called" replacement it has the two prongs (actually screws on the new one) and 1 wire coming out of the bottom. I'm assuming that the wire coming out of the bottom is a ground of some sort. If anyone has replaced their voltage regulator that is the same part number as my original can you tell me what you used?

Any help is greatly appreciated. I was a little overwhelmed thinking about the electrical but opening up the control box actually made it seem quite simple.

Thanks Again,

Re: Replacement Voltage Regulator

The part number for your regulator is 379476, maybe you can use that number to cross, because you woun't like the price of a new one.
