Pulling the old (original) steering & cable system from my 1980 lakescraft I/o stringer 140 3.0 this weekend and replacing with a Teleflex 4.2 No Feedback system. Any recommendations on the disconnect of the steering cable on the engine side and are there any conversion pieces that I will need to purchase to connect the new teleflex cable to the engine side or should all of those connections be generic?

Look before you leap - I'm not sure how the new cables will connect to a Tru-Course Steering (assuming that's what you have on the Stringer). I don't have the Tru-Course, but I don't think it's so easily changed out.

Do you have a manual?

You may need one of the OMC guru's to tell ya' about it. I'd hunt down a shop manual for it, and look over that connection. Tru-Course is a great steering system, but completely unused anymore. I'm not sure what that means to purchasing replacement parts.

Thanks, I am going to go ahead and remove the existing cable connection to the engine to see what I am dealing with, also left the question with teleflex support. New cable came in and had the hole in end of cable rod to connect to the Engine side - hoping to see something similia when I remove the existing cable.... I had called earlier (prior to order ) and the tech at teleflex had indicated that no conversion part was needed... Hoping for same response

Good news! I have only seen a few pictures of the Tru-Course, but read quite a bit about 'em. From what I understand it's actually a pretty good system: just isn't made anymore.
