Replacing '87 3.0 with a new 3.0

After 29 years of minimum repairs I finally needed an engine rebuild. The cost to rebuild outweighed the cost to buy a new one. I bought a new one from Doug Russel marina (local to me). So with the motor I was told I needed to purchase:
- starter
- newer style flywheel
- coupler
- exhaust manifold adapter plate

The marina informed me that I could re-use:
- t-stat housing upper/lower (new)
- carb (new)
- manifold (new)
- alternator (new)
- wiring harness
- fuel pump (old style, filter on top)
- front motor mount.
does all this sound correct?

My question is, I know the points ignition on the old motor and electronic ignition that come on the new motor are slightly different. I remember reading somewhere that I need to do something different with the purple wire that goes to the coil. I tried to search the forum before bothering you guys with this. Can someone tell me what I need to modify in my wiring harness to make this as painless as possible?

New motor purchased:

Boat: 1987 Stringray SVB 176. I've had the boat since 1992 and was given to me when my father passed in 1997, so getting rid of the boat is not an option.

Thanks in advance,

Nick

With electronic systems 12v is applied to the system to cause the engine stumble. With points a ground is used to cause the stumble

Thanks. So would I connect the wire to the + side of the coil from the shift interrupter? If I recall, it connects to the neg side of the coil right now? Which wire is the resistor wire? I read that needs to be constant 12v w/ electronic ignition. I plan to just bypass that wire and run a new switched wire from the ignition switch.
