Hi There,
Attached is pics of my 25hp Evinrude electric start outboard. When I brought it, it was starting fine when pressing the start button. However, some time later the solenoid broke and I had to replace it. Prior to this I tested out the solenoid and found out that it was broken... I therefore brought another four pin solenoid to replace the broken one.
The new one was slightly different in size and shape however fits just fine to the side of the engine. I attacted the + battery cable to one of the large pins and the red cable going to the starter motor to the other large pin. I then attached a cable to the + battery wire on the solenoid to one of the pins on the start button and the other wire on the starter button to the small start pin on the solenoid. I connected the battery up and the starter motor spins fine, and as a result started the engine.
My problem is this.... When I removed the old solenoid there was another wire attached the the other small pin and this wire went round the back of the engine to the other side. I obviously took this off to remove the old solenoid however did not connect it back when I put the new solenoid in. I don't now what this cable is, and what it is for. The engine works ok without it being attached, however I don't want it not to charge or anything like that...
Is it as simple as just attaching this lead to the other small terminal on the solenoid... ?
What is this other lead for which goes to the other side of the engine...?
Next to the attachment for the throttle control remotes on the side of the outboard, there is a small female type connection.. Is this to charge the battery or for an aux light or something like that...?
Thanks for reading....
