Replacing alternator help

I need to replace my alternator since it froze up and broke the belt last time out and I purchased a 1-wire Delco unit online for marine engines and I am replacing a Mando alternator that was originally on the engine. I have an 81' 260hp Mercruiser inboard and the Delco unit mounts right up but there are 4 wires on the the older alternator. A ground, battery cable and 2 others. I've checked into this before buying the new unit by searching on here and I've read some threads that say just to leave the 2 other leads taped up. I haven't installed the new unit 100% yet to try it but the schematic diagram for my boat shows the 2 other leads going to the ignition switch. With these taped up how is it to start the motor? Do I need to run a new line to the starter from the iginition switch or something?

Anyone here change out their Mando type to a Delco before?

Thanks,
Bob W.

Re: Replacing alternator help

No need to run any new wires, just tape up the 2 unused leads and your good to go.
