A couple of years ago, I purchased an older AJ, after an unscrupulous or incompetent Marine Surveyor indicated that he hadn't found any transom rot. I have replaced a Proline boat transom before. I didn't want to do it again!. However, I am now stuck with the project. Due to injuries I have delayed this project. I am pursuing a transom estimate from a local boat fiberglass repair shop. I am going to send estimate to surveyor, but if he will not pay for this repair, I will have to do it myself. But, the fiberglass repair business indicated that they do not remove motors/assemblies. I have removed one V8 motor and transom assembly and relocated motor to the front of my boat on a motor stand. The Mercruiser OD and assembly are in my garage. I have run out of space on boat to store the boat's second V8. I have an "A" frame for motor removal. I could raise 2nd motor, move boat and trailer, and lower the 2nd motor to the ground onto a 2nd motor stand (after buying a second stand) and cover motor with water proof tarp. Or, I can replace about 1/2 of my transom.
I would over lap 3/4" marine plywood or Coosa board with thickened epoxy, Biaxle and regular fiberglass cloth. I would install motor/assembly and repeat process on 2nd motor/assembly. I am attaching a Microsoft PP diagram of how I plan on overlapping plywood or Coosa. I want to "get my ducks in a row." I suspect surveyor will not reply to my estimate. I'd prefer Coosa board at $250 a 3/4x4'x8' sheet or Marine 3/4"x4'x8' at $70 a sheet. At my age, I probably will not outlast the cheaper plywood. Please examine PP. THX!
