I have a 1991 Bayliner 2050 that I recently bought. the carpet on the starboard side rear is in bad shape with a hole in it (worn out from a cooler it looks like). The deck has also lost some of the coating to protect the wood. I am wanting to replace the bottom carpet only and have it look decent again. How hard is this? How much is it? Anyone know a good shop in SO Cal area? It has carpet on the whole interior bottom, including up the walls and bottom of the seats. I just want to change the floor carpet though. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Replacing deck carpet?

Hello Hard Times and welcome to Iboats..

From what im gettin here..you want to kinda splice in new carpet on the the floor and keep the carpet going up on the sides and seats..

Well..its not hard..its more technical..

Blending carpet perfectly requires you to overlap the new carpet onto the new..then cut Both new and old carpets at whatever seam point you want. You lift up the new carpet and remove the cut old carpet seam..then lay down the new carpet at that cut seam.

Trying to cut to fit new carpet and have a seamless blend is almost impossible.

Use some good contact cement and marine grade rubber backed carpet.

USE A RESPORATOR !! Might not be a bad idea to have someone there kinda keeping an eye out for ya. ( fumes from the glue can overcome you Very Fast ).

YD.
