Replacing engine

I have a 2000 trophy w/a with a 4.3 mercruiser 190 hp alpha 1 do I need to remove the out drive to remove the engine? I'm going to do work on the out drive as well but does it Need to come out before is what I was questioning. Thanks to all

Yes it does. Make sure the shifter is in forward gear before removing or installing the outdrive.

Yes, the outdrive has to come off. It's simple. Put it in forward gear. Remove the trim rams from the upper case. Remove the six nuts between the bellhousing and the upper caseand pull the outdrive out from the bellhousing. Now you can pull the engine.

for those that never pulled a drive before, it may take a half an hour by the time you gather the tools, etc.

Yep, and don't forget to remove the speedometer tube (don't ask how I know).
