Replacing ESA; do I need a resistor?

My ESA is no longer working (engine doesn't stumble when I press the switch - the switch works though), so I purchased a new CDI ESA module.
The boat is a '93 Four Winns with this distributor:

The instructions say to add a resistor, but they also say that they are for a Prestolite electronic ignition, and I'm not sure what they mean by that...
I do not have an overstroke switch, and since it's a '93 I think it may have had the most recent ESA already.

Any idea whether or not I'd have to add a resistor?
Thanks.
