Hi,

I need to replace some gauges on a '86 Star Craft. I have seen some good deals on used gauges but am not clear on how simple it would be to use them. Do I need to have matched "sending Units" and gauges, or can I just replace the gauges ?

Thanks !

Jon

Re: Replacing Gauges

The only gauges that have a sender are the fuel and trim. Both should work althugh the fuel sender may need to be changed in the tank. The voltmeter merely measure system voltage -- no sender required. Tach must be able to operate from whatever engine you have. Most are generic and will work with any engine (except some Forces). The speedometer uses a pitot tube so there ya go.

Not sure if you have an I/O or not but oil pressure and water temp also have senders, they all must match the gauges (ohms/resistance) or they won't work properley. Usually the gauges have the requirements on the back.
