Replacing Head For 140 h.p. Mercuiser

I have a 1973 Glastron Carlson CV-16SS with a 140 h.p Mercuiser Engine. I have been told that this is a GM 3.0. The problem is the head is cracked. I took it into a machine shop to rebuild it and they discovered a small crack and said that they didn't feel comfortable repairing it. I need to find another one so my question is what vehicle (if any) did this engine come in so that I can find a core or buy a rebuilt head. Also, is an automotive head the same? Is there a better option for me? Thanks.

B<br />the 3.0 was not a car motor so its hard to go to auto junk yards<br /><br />there were a lot of different heads that were used over the years so unless you get the sameone your other parts may not bolt back on<br /><br />if you post the merc # from the motor someone may be able to tell what head will fit<br /><br /><br />tommays

Barracuda,<br />As Tom says 3.0 is not a car engine. It was installed on older model fork lifts. <br />This is a link to a new one<br /> New head <br />Shop around and see if you can buy remanufactured.<br />Remanufactured should be close to half price of new one. <br />Good Luck.

The Serial # to the Engine is: # 597778<br /><br />Lower unit is Serial # 3587533<br /><br />The machine shop stated that the crack is a hairline crack in the back of the head next to a water chamber. They are afraid it might rust out or seep after it was repaired. Any thoughts on this? Should I go for it and try it or should I really find a replacement head? Thanks.
