When my 4.3L V6 Chev inboard for a 1988 Four Winn 180 Candia was overhauled we went with an electrical fuel pump setup. I purchased a Carter 12V, 72 gal/hr, 5.75 psi shutoff fuel pump. Does anyone have any advice on whether this fuel pump will work okay?

Re: Replacing Mechanical with an Electric Fuel Pump

There are a multitude of Federal laws concerning the safe use and installation of electrical and fuel related items on enclosed gasoline engines.

For example, electrical items such as electric fuel pump has to meet strict safety requirements. They cannot be more than 12" from the motor and the type of lines and clamps are controlled. Wiring has to be so the pump will not operate if the motor quits and the key is left on.

You can review some the the laws and industry standard procedures at:

http://www.uscgboating.org/regulations/boatbuilder/downloads/electrical.pdf

http://www.uscgboating.org/regulations/boatbuilder/downloads/fuelsystem.pdf
