My current boat is an 87 Bayliner Capri. I love this boat and its been a good one but the force 125 o/b has just about had it. The cost of a rebuild is about 4 grand. Ive been looking at the older model mercury 115 inline 6's. My concern is the wiring. If i get the controls for the merc thats only for the steering and in some cases the tilt and trim. What about the stater switch and all the gauges.

Gauges are not specific to the engine except possibly for the tach in your case and a trim guage if you have one. Some Force engines had a unique number of stator poles so a specific tach was needed. Not sure if that applies to your engine or not. Trim gauge senders are unique to each engine so the gauge must match it. The speedometer, fuel and voltmeter are not specific to the engine. If you get Mercury controls, the ignition switch should be included.

Thanks for the info Silvertip. Maybe you can answer another question for me. I've noticed on ebay that some controls are sold with the steering wheel. Will i need a steering wheel made for the merc conrols?

It does indeed apply. The '87 125 HP Force has a 20 pole stator. He also has the ignition switch on the instrument panel, not on the control box, I believe.

I'm pretty sure your current steering system should work with the Merc motor.

The main reason you need to change controls is because of the throttle and shift cables, as well as the wiring, BTW. Force motors of that vintage use a unique cable hookup at the motor. I don't think the stock US Marine controls will directly adapt to the Merc. But someone in the Force & Chrysler outboards section might know for sure.
