GOOD NEWS. . . . The PICTURE UPLOAD FUNCTION IS WORKING !!! The tech folks at the parent company have been able to remedy the issue. You can upload pictures once again. Thank you for your patience.
the engine doesnt have to be OMC. you can buy a 3.0 automotive long block engine and just transfer all the parts on to it. Besides the obvious, you probably just have to switch the cam and replace the freeze plugs with marine ones.
From what car can you find a 3.0 long block? I have an OMC 3.0 as well (built by GM). I've never heard of a 3.0 4 cylinder in a car...a 2.5 yes...off an Oldsmobile Omega early 1980's vintage.
you will need stainless steel head gaskets as well, unless you are closed cooling. Another thing to think about is making sure you heads, block, intake, are of similar metals. You want it all steel, or aluminum, again unless you have closed cooling
npfrog im sure its not worth the trip. $800. complete for used. Try looking in your area.boat doc... WHAT ? are you thinking he can use this 2.5? How would he bolt it up?
No I do not think he can use a jeep engine, I was adding to McKenzie's comment

If he gets an auto block on a fresh water cooling system (long block) He will need to use stainless steel head gaskets as well as brass freeze plugs.

another thing, a lot of engine marinizers double spring there vavles due to boats running higher revs.
