you guys might remember me. back on march 12th someone stole my old kicker motor. 2 nights ago someone stole my new 8hp nissan kicker. this time they took the black pad off the kicker bracket. can I buy a new mounting pad or do i have to buy a whole new bracket? this is a new stainless 4 stroke bracket from garelick. the punks also broke the fiberglass on the transom trying to pry the bracket off.thanks for your help

lingcod

Re: replacing outboard bracket

Forget the motor and bracket. Get yourself a man eating watch dog and a baseball bat. Time to exact some revenge on them thieves. Sorry about your loss and good luck with the bracket and new motor. Maybe re-think where you are storing that boat.

Re: replacing outboard bracket

I would re-think where i store it but the boat is stored in my driveway 3 feet from garage door under a very bright light. they are doing this at night while I am home. ballsy for sure since I am the proud owner of several projectile firing devices from 22cal all the way up to 50cal. If i catch them they are not gonna like it.

lingcod

Re: replacing outboard bracket

just a suggestion but would it be worth putting a battery operated motorcycle alarm on your kicker? I've got one on my bike and its loud as he11. It's 3.5" square, made by Pirahna and called a microlarm. They aint expensive either.
It runs off a standard 9v battery that lasts about 4 months a time.

You could try replacing the pad with a chunk of 2" marine ply. That's what I've got on mine and it's rated to 10hp.

Two motors in as many months? And you have a .22 and a .50 and a light? You're lucky all they wanted was the motor. You might as well buy them another. Get dead bolts and bars for the house. Good luck.

Re: replacing outboard bracket

what can be done to protect the kickers from theft? I had a cable lock which they cut. I had the motor lock that locks the mounting handles, which they took with the bracket. what else can I do? I don't want to have to remove the motor every time as it is electric start and not easily removed unless you are a thief.are there any other options?

lingcod

Datatag it all over-boat,main engine AND kicker.
I'd seriously think about putting a really loud alarm on your boat with a sensor on the kicker. You might even be able to do this with a remote sensor on a house alarm.
In the UK we have a lot of problems with boat theft-usually by gypsies. My boat is stored on a farm in the middle of nowhere up a 1/2 mile dirt track that has a caravan storage facility, and 2 friends of mine live on site.Everything of value left on it is datatagged, engraved with my zipcode and UV marked in at least 3 places and the stickers are on everything that's datatagged-in a really visible place.
It aint worth jack to them if they can't sell it.

If you really want to let them know that they are risking their lives stealing from you a big NRA sticker on your kicker might make them think twice.

Get a pull start kicker and remove it would be an obvious suggestion-but probably not really what you want to hear.

What it really boils down to is making them move on to what they think is an easier target. That's all that anti-theft measures can do.

Good luck.
