Noticed last fall that one of the main padded boards on my trailer appears to be partially broken. Its not as straight as it should be...

I have the padded felt like material and wanted to confirm if a 2x4 is sufficient for the task. Thinking I should avoid pressure treated due to the chemicals and go with cedar 2x4. Is this good enough or is there another option I should be looking at?

Boat is a 17' Legend with side console and a 40hp Merc.

Also, trailer is a 99, and showling some rust and flaking paint at a few of the joints. Can I just wire brush to clean up the rist spots and prime\paint with a rust paint?

Thanks.....

Otis...remove the bad piece and replace it with the same thing (size and kind)...I doubt cedar will be necessary. Good Luck!

Look carfully at how its fastened on the trailer the bolts can work their way through and get into the gel coat.
