Well, I flipped the head to convert for bow use--no problem. (Thanks for the advice to you who know who you are!) Hooked her up to my car battery for testing today and everything's cool. (The thing's been sitting for ten years, untouched.) And now...

I figure I better learn about prop replacement, and although it looks simple, it ain't doing what I think it should:

The photo shows the wing-nut thingy removed, but the prop doesn't come off. It seems to be still connected to some assembly. Is it just stuck, and needs a spritz of WD-40 or something, and then a good zetz (hard jerk/pull) to pull it off?

This isn't a performance issue and for my Piece of Ship,, I doubt I even have to have to replace it, but I want to know how and figure it's worth the investment. This motor has seen better days.

And for those who praise Minn-Kota's customer service, I violently disagree. THREE WEEKS AND TEN EMAILS LATER, THEY STILL HAVEN'T EMAILED ME A PDF MANUAL

Also, and off-topic, who makes those half-size deep cycle 2v batteries? Seyvelor? This boat is tiny, and I would rather carry two half-size than one full size, even if it's less bang for the buck.

Ayuh,... My guess is it's rusted/ corroded/ seized to the shaft,...
There's a shear pin in/ under the hub too....

Lots of something Better than WD-40 to soak it with, 'n creative Pressure should get it off...
Fluid Film would be My choice,...
Don't forget to squirt it Behind the prop to, to get to the shear pin...

Once apart, clean it up, 'n lube it...

On yer "Little battery theory",....

If the battery can't run the motor, it's All excess weight, as it's Useless anyways,....

Ya might as well leave it All at home, 'n just paddle where yer goin'....

Thanks for the info--will do.

In other words, I can spray like a nut, maybe soak, and she should pull off like this, eventually.

Just spritzed it with WD-40, and it came off in a second with a good pull.

Also, the entire prop is plastic, so it can't rust on there. And I saw that shear pin you're talking about, which sits into a plastic channel in the back of the prop.

Guess I should look to buy a new prop, whether I need it or not.

I don't know of anyone that had to replace a trolling motor prop unless it was damage in some manner OTHER than in normal use. If this is the only source of propulsion, I might suggest a spare, but on a small boat, I suspect you have oars. Spend the money on a bigger deep cycle battery so get some reasonable run time. But if the motor is in as bad a shape as you suggest, I'm with Bond-o.

Motor is just old--it's working, and hardly any hours on it at all. And yeah, I got oars, but I want to work with the motor too.

I hear you though. There's no real damage to the prop, it's just old as s***, and a new one is just 12 bucks, so I figured what the heck.

Be sure to carry a spare nut, lock washer, and shear pin aboard.

Will do--and I "love" the way they price these things:

The pin set costs almost as much as the prop!

Fortunately, the new props come with it all, and I still have the old one.
