Good day,
It is Mercruiser Alpha 1 drive.
I will be working on shift cable replacement this weekend. It is the first time for me, so I am looking forward to learning something new :) .
I also need to replace a shift shaft seal and bushing. The bushing assembly I purchased came as a 2 brass bushings - small one and a bigger one.

My question is - is there something special about replacing these bushings? Do I need some kind of puller for it? Also, when the new one is installed, do I need some kind of adhesive for it to hold...?
I have the special socket for the shift cable, but have no idea if I need a tool for shift shaft seal.

Thank you!

I made my "special" bushing tool with a 1/4x20 bolt some washers and a socket and a nut. use it one wat to pull the bushing out and the other to pull the bushing in. does one of your replacement bushings look like a bell with the seals already installed ?

Re: Replacing shift cable and bellhousing shift shaft seal

That is what mine looked like when I got my new bellhousing. However, I am not much help on the installation of them because mine were already installed. The larger one did come with two seals already installed as well. I had a question on the smaller bushing. It did not come with a seal, but while running the engine on the muffs I noticed some water coming out around the shaft in that bushing. I assume that this is normal since there is no seal, and I also assume that it would not hurt anything to leak there. Just wanted to be sure that is correctly assumed?!?
