I have a 2006 mercruiser 3.0 alpha 1 gen 2. I removed the slave solenoid. I am finding it almost impossible to hold the nuts behind the plate so I can get the bolts started. Any suggestions on a tool to use. Will a very thin open ended wrench work? Also, I had to remove the spark plug wire right next to the solenoid and the one closest to the rear of the engine compartment. I may have mixed up the the wires. Is there a diagram that tells me where each plug connects to the dust cap? Thanks for any advice.

:welcome: to iboats

In most cases I use either some long needle nose pliers or take a wrench and tape the nut to it. Put a hole where the threads are and then put it together. If a bit of tap is left behind after tightening, no biggy.

Your firing order is 1-3-4-2
