Hi:

Anyone have any experience in replacing the starter & both cables on a 1989 Sea Ray 230 Weekender? Has 7.4l Mercruiser w/Bravo1.

Boat is out of state, so I can't look at it, to see what it involves.

Is this an easy swap out or is the starter and cables in a difficult location to get to.

Thinking about buying this boat, however need to know what this involves.

Thank You

Hobie

Hey Hobie,
I would ask the owner to take a few pictures of the deck, engine and starter areas and send them to you. Basically, if you can see it and actually reach it, it should be a piece of cake.

Assume many other problems if you are not able to start and run prior to buying it. Personally, unless you feel it is worth the gamble (and sometimes it is) I would not buy a boat with a non-running engine unless the price was such that you could buy new components withou ending up with too much invested (beyond it's worth).

Hope this helps...............RH

Think about this.... if you had this boat for sale yourself, wouldn't you have it running to demo to get top $$$$ ? I would.Especially if a starter and cables were ALL it needed.

DHP
