I am new to this forum so forgive me if this question has been asked before.
I have a 1985 50hp mercury 4cyl elec start motor that the local marina says
has a bad stator, the quoted price seems high. How much trouble is it to
replace the stator? I am the service manager at a chevrolet dealership so
I have access to tools and equip. I also have a Seloc(sp) manual.
Thanks
Les

It's a simple job remove the flywheel, 4 screws that hold the windings, remove the wires at the switch box and button it up. It wouldn't hurt to test the stator first as some of the service center could use help. I would recommend a CDI stator inplace of Mercury, a much product

Hello, I have a 1969 Johnson Outboard Motor, 25 hp. Model 25R69D. Then engine starts and runs. After a few minutes makes a noise and shuts down. I have been told it may be the stator. Any ideas? Thanks
