I know this has been asked many times. I have been searching the Internet and these forums for a couple days now and still have questions. Sorry if this has been answered already. We are replacing the floor and the stringers in our supposedly 1972 Penn Yan. We removed one of the floor boards (it was around 4 foot by maybe 5 foot by maybe a half inch). It was really rotten. The stringers where like a check board which I wasn't really expecting...They're rotten as well. For the stringers, what type of wood are we supposed to use? Any pressure treated wood? The ones that run from the engine to the front of the boat we think are 2 x 2's. The ones that run from side to side we think are 2x4's. Also, I've read some where that people say we are supposed to epoxy the boards first? Does that mean use epoxy resin or are we supposed to use fiberglass resin? Is there a special type? And after that, what is the next step? Do we have to fiberglass them? And is there a minimum thickness to the fiberglass? Right now, they have a thicker fiberglass on the stringers than what was used on the floor boards. We was thinking for the floor, we'd just use plywood and treat it with something. Would we use some sort of fiberglass or Epoxy resin? Would we use epoxy? Do we have to fiberglass the deck boards once we finish installing them? And if we use pressure treated wood for the stringers / deck, do we have to dry it out and if so, for how long usually? Sorry for all the newbie questions. We got a bit confused reading all the posts.
