Hi All. I finally got around to putting a new tilt motor in my 69 Evinrude Explorer. I have a 72 Buick 155hp V6 in it that was replaced about 8-10 years ago. The stringer is OMC and is the set trim. So all I get is tilt. I had been putting off messing with it, but got a wild hair today, and got the old motor off (finally). It was as fun as other posts here had promised. When I pulled it I checked the hammerblow, and it looks broken. So here are my questions. Based on its condition, should I pull the tilt shaft worm gear and open the clutch plate up as well? Looked a little watery in there and I assume that was the demise of my motor. The other half of the hammer blow is intact and the tilt gear that engages the quadrant gear moves smoothly when turning the intact half by hand. I am just not sure how to get the worm out if that would be necessary. I also don't want to purchase parts unnecessarily. I have been going at it with what seems like common sense while waiting on my manual to arrive. So any insight is appreciated. This is a picture of the pieces I have been able to get out so far and one of the empty space where the tilt motor was (for those who may be wondering). I could not find a good picture of the darn thing removed and opened the boot to get to the back of the motor. Probably not the best way, but like I said just going off common or not so common sense. Thanks in advance!
