I'm probably going to replace my thermostats and impeller within the next month. Is there a particular brand that's better than others or are they all the same? My motor is a '96 pro v 200. Thanks. On the impeller I spend a lot of time on the river where there's no telling what kind of crap I'm sucking up so definately want the most durable impeller money can buy.

Order on-line: Yamaha Waterpump Repair Kit, has all parts, woodruff key, bolts, gaskets,O-ring, wear plate, impeller, etc. to do the job. I just did mine last week and it was about a 2 hour job, but not bad. Hopefully all your bolts come off O.K., not frozen in place and break off, which can happen with older saltwater motors. You will want a tube of waterproof Spline Grease for driveshaft and shifter splines and all bolts, just to do it right. Quicksilver makes a grease called 2-4-C, which is good. Good Luck!

This freshwater motor got a new lower unit about 7 months ago so the bolts should come right off. Nothing mentioned in the paperwork about a new impeller so while the lower unit doesn't have any oil in it may as well:)

If it's a new lower unit then the water pump should be new also? Maybe check with whoever you got it from? Good Luck!

Re: Replacing thermostats and impeller

A friend of mine who knows the people at the shop that did it a lot better than I do said they replace the water pump every time a lower unit gets removed whether it needs it or not. It's simply the right thing to do.

On the T-stats I'm assuming they're all the same regardless of brand since I havn't gotten any feedback on them.
