I am trying to decide as fast as possible what to do about the old tired extension, that is probably getting pretty weak by now and definitely leaks badly, I have available an extension off another boat which is very heavy, although it has a floatation compartment it probably doesn't offer much buoyancy, I am considering a Porta trans for the 200 Merck as they don't have any buoyancy but they don't weigh near as much as the cast aluminum unit I was looking at.You can see the length of the tired old extension here as we haul out.

I would be the extension is not the problem. I am assuming when you say leaking, it means into the boat. I am thinking the transom is rotten where the extension mounts too, and the mounting hold are leaking.

I agree with FB ^^^^. I'd be checking the transom, especially if the leaking has been occuring for any length of time. You could be in danger of major failure of the stern of the boat. That is a BIG motor and LONG Pod extension which is putting an extreme amount of downward torque on that transom. Without proper bracing and structural support it is not going to support it. JMHO
