So new boat to me, need some pro help. Have to replace 2 transom shield on a 2002 Volvo GXI-A with DP-SM outdrive the transom shield is a TSK-SX-MHP. The question is, I found some on ebay but don't match number wise. Are their more than 1 number that would work? I think it is suppose to be a 3817147. Any help would be much appreciated.

welcome aboard

first, what makes you think you need new transom shields? that is not a wear item, and if there is a problem, usually there are other items that need attention.

I'm guessing corrosion or electrolysis? Having replaced mine, I understand. Most VP (SX and/or DP1995-2006) transom assembles will work. They use 2 more upper bolts on the 2000 and up models, but all uppers and gimbal housings will attach.

I looked on ebay, called local shops and did searchtempest...in the end, calling marinas and boat shops yielded the final result. My used transom is the older style (1996-97) and save for the 2 upper bolt holes that the 2000+ models have bolted right up. I filled the holes with marine caulking and haven't had any issues with stress nor leaks. I replaced my gasket at the same time. The hydraulic cylinders use different rods/shafts through the out-drive, so the newer style will not work. If you buy the whole assembly, they usually come with transom shield, gimbal housing, rams, and hoses.

Michigan Motorz has a factory LINK newer one for $4K...I didn't want to spend that much given that I also had to purchase an upper and lower (I got out of California for $2,500 + shipping from a guy who repowered his 2003 boat).

I've changed computers so references numbers would be work for me? volvopentastore.com has all the part numbers,,,you just have to look up you model(s).

Good Luck! I am also curious as to why you have to replace them?

Cheers,

Brett

Oh yeah...If you haven't addressed the "why" part of having to replace your transom assemblies...I would encourage you to correct it! If it's errant electrical current, it WILL happen again...

So the hole in the transom shield was a dead giveaway that I would have to replace one the other is really close so might as well do two. Yes it was a surprise and not a pleasant one at that. Yes corrosion and electrolysis, was never painted was left in salt. I didn't think that is was as bad as it is, took off drives to clean and paint for next year and boom. 2 of the 4 trim cylinders also, might do all of them...... Thanks for the welcome, not the first forum I've been around but looks like a lot of good info here
