Replacing trim tilt issue

I have an older 19 ft Glastron with a mercruiser 898 305 pre alpha stern drive. The boat came with a trim tilt pump but it went out (I believe it was an old prestolite pump lines hook on bottom) and a friend of mine gave me a new one. The new one says sae j1171 marine with the white container at the bottom. The problem I'm having is one of the hydraulic lines does not screw into the new pump. The screw part on the end of the line is to small. I bought a little adapter piece but even though it screwed in it was not a good fit and when I tested it, fluid shot everywhere. Does this mean the newer pump is not compatible with my boat? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... It'll work, but ya gotta delete yer stuff from the hyd. manifold under the transom, to the pump...

Then run the line for that pump to the hyd. manifold... the return line, I believe the lighter colored 1...

With that pump, ya don't need the reverse lockin' system....

Yeah... Everything Bondo said, and..... You're replacing a low volume, high pressure pump with a low pressure, high volume pump. You might find performance problems and need to replace the rams too...

BTW, SAE-J1171 is a marine rating, not a part number. You'll find that sticker on all sort of electrical components, Starter motors, solenoids, alternators, etc.
