My trim/tilt motor has been acting up for a few months and has reached a point where it no longer operates. I want to install a new motor. I go to take out the bolts that hold the bracket where the motor sets and they are breaking off. Is this common? What do I do now?

Thanks for the help.

I'm not familiar with your boat, but I can give you a few ideas for removing broken bolts. First, you need to invest in penetrating oil. Kroil, if you can find it, is the best, but Liquid Wrench can't hurt. If the bolts didn't break off flush (although they usually do just to irritate you), let them soak awhile with the penetrating oil and try vise grips. Hardware broken flush is another story. Again, soak the fasteners in penetrating oil. Purchase a set of Easy-outs at your auto store. Hopfully the screws will remove with the easy-outs. Last resort is drilling them out. It won't be easy. You'll need carbide bits and you'll probably hog-out the holes a little. If you do, you can tap the holes to the next larger thread size, or take the part to a machine shop and have helicoils installed. That's my two cents, good luck!!!!
