I am replacing the wooden 2 X 6 and 2 X 4's that the boat sits on. Do I need to buy any particular type of wood? Also do I need to put any type of treetmanet on the wood or just wrap it in carpet. Thanks.

Pressure treated seems to be used by alot of people. Cypress is the best. No rot - long lasting. Composite (recycled) wood is gaining a following :)

I read something about not using pressure treated if you are covering with carpet , I looked at new trailers last year and none of them came with PT bunks....YMMV

I was told not to use PT also, so i didnt. I just got some boards at Lowes and painted them pretty good and wrapped in carpet. It helps if you use aerosol adhesive to hold the carpet to the bunks while stapling.

PT wood can leach some pretty nasty stuff.

Use a good grade of regular wood.

A lot of people make a big mistake by not using galvanized or Stainless fasteners, for the carpet.

Had to replaced cypress bunks with pin oak last year. The bunks are large and the trailer did float. Was OK on the lake but a pita when you river launch/recover not only getting the boat back on, but when the trailer was empty it would drift toward the guy next to you or under the dock, that caused fender damage.
The bunks are big. The new ones are 5"x7"x9', the old bunks were a little bigger than that. The cost, under a $100.00 for two bunks and the guy who cut them does all the bunks for a couple of trailer manufacturers in the area. That's how i got his number. No more floating from the cypress now and one big problem gone when you go by yourself.

What are bunks and why so big. My trailer rails, two of them are 2 X 6 and the other two are 2 X 4. So don't use pressure treated or pine. What other woods won't float, any in particular?
