Ok, so i have a 1989 spectrum 1700 fish n ski. All the wood in the interior is rotted and i'm already in the process of gutting out the inside. I was thinking about putting in a aluminum floor so i don't ever have to worry about the floor getting soft. My question is what would be a good type of aluminum to use and thickness? Also anyone know about how much it would cost? Also what would be a sealer to put down in the inside bottom to seal up any leaky rivits?

Gluvit and Coat-it are two products for sealing seams and leaking rivets. Best if used on the interior of the boat and are not UV resistant. If it will be exposed the the sun then it needs to be painted. Gluvit is opaque yellowish and Coat-it is black. I have used Gluvit with great success.

I have seen one project that I recall an aluminum floor installed. Pretty sure it was a Starcraft and I think it was diamond plate.

Type and cost will be up to you to figure out. If you were really lucky you could find some scrap and save some big $$$.

Welcome to the site. Post some pictures ask questions and do some searching on the site. There are lots of tin boats here on the site. Also let us know where home is.

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,... Sheet aluminum will be slippery, 'n to get it thick enough to stop the flex when ya walk on it, it'll be too heavy, 'n Expensive...

In all Honesty,.... Plywood is the only reasonably priced option....

You can always seal it....

Oh,... for the leaky rivets,... Glu-vit...

You can put in an MDO plywood deck sealed with epoxy resin that will last longer than you will own the boat for 1/3 of what it will cost to put in aluminum decking.

Here's a sheet of 4x8x .125 (1/8") thick dull mill finish diamond deck for $292.16
Metals Depot? Shopping Cart

A 4x8x3/4" sheet of MDO plywood is about $60... see the difference?

Sounds HOT!!!!! to me. If we did something like that out here (NM) you could fry eggs on the deck by 9:00 and cook a roast by 2:00!! Thinking about it makes my feet dance!!
