I have a Wellcraft, twin 140 mercruisers. Its dated 1985. late season, the one outdrive developed a loud whine sound.
Ive contacted my mechanic requesting a quote on rebuilding it but so far no reply. I was told by a friend about "Sterndrive Engineering" out of Florida, and how they build, American made replacment outdrives for around $1200.00. I hardly think i could get a complete rebuild from a shop for that price. Additionaly, they provide a 3 year no questions asked warranty, even if the damage is your fault.
Soooo, the big question, anyone have first hand experiance with this company or its outdrives?

Most of the reviews I have heard have been positive and how can you beat the waranty and further more for that price man I bet you would even get a better deal if you bought a pair!

Great company. Great product. Great customer service. Great price. (I've had several of their units on various boats).

Other than that, I don't really have much good to say. ;)

They are not american made. More like Hencho en Chinao and pakistanio....

I've installed quite a few of these units over the years.

Paint stinks and will need touch up when boating in saltwater...
They can have a little a little gear whine
The oil needs to be changed out after a 10 hour break in period....

Once you get past all that, the drives do what they are supposed to do, and work no differently than the merc drives. You can reseal an alpha for less, but you can't rebuild one for less than one of these SEI drive. They are easily the best value in marine aftermarket parts.

Go for it!
