I have a 1984 Sea Ray w/twin 228hp mercruiser engines. I have about 1250 hours on them and they still seem to run well. I have been wondering if when the time comes to change engines if it would be better to go to a 4.3 liter fuel injected engine since it has basically the same hp and less weight. The stern of my boat sits so low that I thought this would help, as well as getting better fuel economy. Is this something that would work? I hate to spend all the money for a new boat when this one is perfectly fine for my weekend use. Thanks for anyone that can help

Bruce,

Sounds like you've thought it though quite well. I have changed many 228s for 4.3EFIs and the customer is always over the moon.

That 228 hp is 'at the crank', whereas the 220 hp of the 4.3EFI is 'at the prop', so you should notice a significant difference.

Chris.............

Thanks!! Do you feel an investment like this is justified for a boat of this age?

I appreciate you input!
