I'm in the process of ""TRYING"" to get quotes on a NEW powerplant for my
Mako I/O. What the hell is going on? I,ve had to re-call dealers to get a price.
Seems I'm not being taken seriously?

I'm prepared to spend the bucks, but I guess it's freaking everyone out.
Had, "one of the souths largest dealers, with over 250 boats in stock" tell me to find a
insurance totaled boat, and, the motor makers deal with boat manufacterers and we cant even get single motors...??? While their website shows A BUNCH of single motors with a request for quote form on each page?????

I DONT WANT USED, but I do have a rebuilt longblock that I believe in...some.
Would someone help me with part nos. etc, that I need to install NEW outdrive/transom/
trim pump/ bell housing/coup, etc.

The motor is a 350 chev 2 piece seal I had coupled to a OMC stringer, I gave up on.

I know I'm asking for alot of help but I have seen you guys help"ALOT".

If ya'll like I will post project pics. I have already pulled the tank and coal tar epoxied, and filled in the old transom cutout.

Sorry for the long post

Thanks
WK

Re: Repower help...please

I just repowered my 97 Maxum with a long block from:
http://www.ebasicpower.com/engines/base/350.htm

I am fairly pleased with the engine. The documentation is sketchy. I have had to call these guys several times with questions.
Overall, it is good...but then I only have about 2.5 hrs on the new engine.

I dunno who you are calling or where you are looking but I just repowered with a 5.7 and I had no problem finding a zillion places selling engines.

Re: Repower help...please

Daddy o's marine was cheaper than rapido when I got my 5.7 a couple months ago.

If I were you I would pay a little more (not a bunch) to get one from a place within driving distance. Daddy o's is 3 hours from me.

Then if you have any problems you don't have to deal with shipping and stuff. If something happens to my engine (knock on wood) I'm gonna load the boat up and bring it to them.

Re: Repower help...please

My understanding of "repower" must be different than most. I was assuming he wants a complete new powertrain from carburetor to propeller.

Putting in a long block is not really a repower in my mind... although I can see why some would call it that

Ayuh,.... Nobody's taking you seriously as you want to put an OMC motor in front of a brand new Mercruiser driveline...

A Complete Mercruiser driveline, Pulleys to Prop will set you back about $10,000. to $12,000......

Ayuh...nobodies taking you serious because you ALWAYS say
AYUH..???

The dealers I spoke with were to get a New package, nothing to do with the old ANYTHING.

I said I was prepaired to spend the bucks, from what I have found online....your numbers are low. Now if you would be so kind as to let me know where I could find a NEW V8 MPI COMPLETE package
for $12,000. I'll give you $1000.

Any boat builders near you? In these economic times a builder may have one laying around or work with you on getting one. Just a thought. good luck Bill

All I've got is a boat and a steering wheel.

Actually, even your steering wheel is of no use to a Mercruiser repower- You will need a new wheel, helm unit, steering cable etc..
The way the wheel is actually mounted to the helm unit is totally different.

Re: Repower help...please

I was referring to a complete engine. Carb ign and and all.

Maybe you will have better luck (and maybe save some $$$ too) by buying a complete engine and then buying a sei drive to match.

Re: Repower help...please

Hi, Figure I will tell about my search. I'm repowering a 32ft Chris Craft, it had twin 270hp FWC motors. 1 seized other had issues. Bought the boat knowing it had bad motors. I did the search on the net, got quotes of 16k for 2 crusader bob tails rwc, contacted reman companies, get quotes for long blocks, but I'm hesitant to use my old parts.

Saw Daddy O on ebay, and web page and called them. Was told they buy new GM base engines and "build" them up to complete turn key engines. I flew down and visited the shop and spoke with the staff and owner. I was pleased with the time spent with us, and quality of parts used. I selected 2 300hp 350cid motors, they are new GM engines, 1 was made counter rotation, all new parts from bell housing to crank mounted pump, also the motor was FWC and included manifolds. I wrote the check for 11,100 with shipping to NJ. Thursday is the delivery day, I'll post pictures.

After all my searching, I wanted all new motors, the crusaders look nice, but what would I get for the extra 6k? I saved enough in sales tax to pay for shipping. On any repower project, visit the shop if you can, it was less then $200 to fly down and stay 1 night.

The NUwave marine in NJ, are very nice people, They have geat deals on new parts that are take offs, I just got 2 complete trans coolers with hoses for my velvet drives
