I have a 2000 evinrude 70hp 4 stroke (suzuki)..Anyhow it seized on thanksgiving with 296 hours..I found a good deal on a 1998 evinrude 60hp 2 stroke..Would this be an easy swap or is the wireing harness or anything else diffrent that would turn this good deal into a bad with the changeover..Any and all info much apreciated..Thanks Richard

Yes, the wiring harness and control is different. Gauges, etc, like the tach would have to be changed.
Please check your PMs

If it's a 2000 EVINRUDE the wiring harness and controls should fit his new mtr

Re: Repower question going from 4 stroke to 2 stroke

Hmmm.....the motor side connectors are totally different from any Modular Wiring I have ever seen on newer OMC two strokes.

No Deutsch connectors here....they are different. Will investigate further. Thanks, Boobie for the heads-up.

May be a year model issue.

If I remember right, OMC was marketing Suzuki 4 strokes under the Evinrude name and all the controls and wiring were the same as the two strokes. But I may be wrong.

The Evinrude 70 4-stroke uses the same electrical harness and controls and SystemCheck gauge as other J-E engines of 1996 and newer.

The American Suzuki version of that motor has differences in controls and wiring and are not the same as J-E motors.

Re: Repower question going from 4 stroke to 2 stroke

I stand corrected. I have four down in the shed, and upon looking, I see that they are indeed all Suzukis, but two of them have Evinrude engine covers. None of the engines I have will accept the Modular Deutsch Systems Check style harnesses.

Run a compression check on it and see what you come up with.
