Ihave a 21' 1971 chriscraft with 302 ford and series "R" merc outdrive. The 302 is shot, I've found a 351 W. What should be considered in doing this swap? IE: Out drive gear ratio, engine coupler, etc. or would engines be interchangable? Thx Dave

"Out drive gear ratio" <br />Same...<br /><br /> "engine coupler" <br />Same...<br /><br /> "etc." <br />Should be the Same...<br /><br /> "would engines be interchangable? "<br />I'm not saying you won't find Some Differences, But, All Should be Adaptable......

Re: repower

The main difference between a 302 and 351 is the deck height (the distance from the crank centerline to the top of the cylinder bore. In a car this is sometimes a problem as the overall package is slightly wider and taller. The intake manifold is different and the firing order is changed. As long as your engine compartment isn't super tight it shouldn't be a problem. I'll defer to others with more knowledge on the outdrive questions. Take care.

Re: repower

hello<br /> now I gotta ask. is the 351 a cleveland, windsor or a 351M/400M. the windsor and the 302 are all but identical. some minor differences here and there. their were 2 versions of the windsor intake I belive. pardon me but its been years since I hotrodded. anyway the 351C or 351M shares all most nothing other than ford blue paint with the 302/351w engines. a quick call to Jack Roush performance will get any FoMoCo info you desire.<br /> good luck and keep posting

Re: repower

The engine alignment will probably be the biggest problem and it really isnt a problem at all so you are in good shape!!!Charlie
