I lost the trigger and stator on the Force last Friday and decided to buy a 70's vintage Johnson 100. Where can I find the weights of the engines to compare? Would you sell the Force as a repairable unit or in parts? The Force is in perfect condition other than the trigger & stator.

Early 70's had electric shift. Just so's ya know.

The force if you had the tenacity would sell as is on Ebay and probably bring a good price. The only problem is shipping or sell as is where is, picked up only.

Thanks for the info. I wonder if splitting up the Force ie. Power head/carbs-intake/lower unit/props etc. would be of benefit to other Force owners? I hadn't thought of where-is/as-is/pick-up only. Tnx for the sugestion. On the electric shift--- Can it be replaced with mechanical? Has there been problems with electric shift? The old posts don't mention any.

If its got electric shift were not driving to Centralia. Can't be replaced with mechanical gear box and the lower ends are finiky. The coils in the lower end tend to short and then you are done. See you tomorrow. :p

Re: Repowering from 88/Force-85hp to John-100hp

hmmmm weird. MY buddy has a 78 Evinrude 235 HP V-6. It originally came with the hydro electric shift lower unit on it. Well he blew that lower unit up real quick> we soon realized that the hydroelectric OMC lower unit is not only pricey but hard to get in Colorado. :) So I found a guy in Florida who send us the entire intake manifold and linkage along with a mechanical shift lower unit. It took quite a bit of doing, a little grinding for clearance but all in all it was a simple swap and the mechanical shift setup if working perfect. Of course he blew up the mechanical shift lower unit as well. So he finally bit the bullet and had a high performance gearbox built, still about 1/2 the cost for the mechanical shift version compared to the hydro electric crapola....

So if thats what you mean by electric shift it can be done, the intake manifold had to be swapped because it contained the pivot point for the shift linkage.

It;s good to have the internet, otherwise we would still be looking for somebody to sell us a hydro electric shift lower unit....

Tnx for the info. What year did Johnson stop the Hydro Shift? Anyone out there with a website for older Johnson engines?
