I am buying a donor boat to get the engine, outdrive, trim tabs, and any other usable part. The motor that is in my 24 ft Reinell is a Merc 165 GM L6 with a 120/140HP outdrive(which I think has wrong gear ratio). The donor boat has a 302 ford V8 merc with 888(I think) outdrive. Loos exactly like my 120/140. So here are my concerns. How or what do I need to do for the engine support frames? Is the gimbal the same? What other issues should I be concerned with. Engine will be rebuilt and outdrive will be gone through. I will be redoing the transom. Thanks

Ayuh,.... Build new 1s,... You're going from an In-line to a V-motor....
Is the gimbal the same?

Close, But Not exactly...

And since you have the complete assy from the donor - swap everything, then you know it works together.

Thanks for the replies. Is the hole through the transom the same? I am planning to rebuild the transom and need to know if I can use my existing transom as a pattern or do I need a different pattern for the outdrive? How do I go about building new frames for the V8 and how do I determine the correct frame height? Still am in the process of removing old rotten floor(snow slowed things down:(),but I do not think the existing frames go more than 6 ft fwd from the transom. How long would the new engine frames need to be?Thanks again.

Yes the cutouts will be indenticle and in the same location.

Just a suggestion - you should post this in the restoration forum and include pictures to track your progress.
