Re: repowering Omc twins

while your question seems straightforward, it would/could open a can of worms. First a comment about budget....You need to at least have a general idea of how much you want to spend ie going right to a drive manufacturer (and having a dealer swap them) will in all likelyhood be the most expensive way.....the other end of the spectrum would be pulling the engines yourself and having a local machine shop perform the necessary machining, you reassemble and reinstall will definitely save you money, if you have the skills.

having said that, through the larger repower dealers, you can buy factory new short or long block engines, have them delivered to a dealer or mechanic for installation....might be the best compromise.

another question to ask youself is how bad are they? do they need a complete rebuild? is a top end job enough? etc. are the engines still running? what is wrong? what are they doing or not doing? etc

Re: repowering Omc twins

have had constant problems with the starboard engine injesting water have rebuilt it 3 times changed exhaust manifolds, y pipe, flappers, with the same results water in the engine. the port engine runs fine it's just 20 years old (original) and high time. obviosly I am doing something wrong! thought a dealer could do the job and not do what I have screwed up plus I am kinda tired of spending all my time upside down looking at motors and would like to get back to enjoying the boat with my wife! figure the job will cost about 10-15 thosand. but the boat is worth it (to us ) we love the boat and have it configured to our needs( wife is disabled). and couldn't afford to replace it for what we bought it for.so we think that it would be a more cost effective alternative all thoughts are appreciated!!!

The repower is not going to solve the water problem

you really need to figure out the cause so you do not ruin a new motor

Are you running in Freshwater or Saltwater (Seawater) if freshwater, you could possibly get a couple car, or truck blocks, new or rebuilt, Reasonable, No marine stainless head gasket, or brass freeze out plugs needed.

We use the boat mostly in saltwater only ocasionaly in the fresh water.
anybody have any other ideas on how the water gets in the engine. also thinking that if I'm gonna lay out a hunk of cash might as well go fresh water cooled. any thoughts?
