Repowering question

My boat had a 1998 Johnson 115 on it that has seen it's last leg. This weekend I have been weighing my options and have just about decided on what I want to do. Cost and the fact my boat is almost 15 years old have discouraged me from going with a brand new engine. The fact that I plan on buying a motor with a little age on it and once again cost are leaning me twards a 2 stroke. I can work on a 2 stroke, I have rebuilt a couple of Johnson/Evinrude crossflow v4s before and am told the Yamaha 115 is quite similar.

OK here is my question. If I were to repower with a Yamaha 115 or 150 2 stroke would I be able to use my Johnson controls? Would I need a new wireing harness?

Re: Repowering question

You would need Yamaha controls and cables, but once you go Yamaha you would never go back to anything else. Consider the F115 4stroke which is very reliable and uses almost half the fuel as 2stroke! Change oil every 100 hours and add fuel and run a Racor filter, you'll be very happy, happy, happy...

If you can find an older Yamaha 115 2 stroke for a good price, they're great motors too. Pretty much bulletproof.
