If my boat is rated at 75hp max, what will I be getting into if I put a 90 hp on it? I currently have a 2000 Fisher 16 avenger with a 40hp Merc on it. Thanks for any info.

Listen to Phil, Paul.

70HP would make your boat plenty fast.

Good luck. :)

Re: Repowering?

Thanks for the replies. I think I will have a 75 Merc. put on this fall. A repower from Mercury to Mercury shouldn't require any changes in my controls, etc. right?

Engines are identicle in weight and type and the difference in speed is @ 1800 lbs (average lite load for your boat..), 37.5 MPH versus 41.7 MPH. About 4 MPH difference. Here in Florida its no sweat...CHECK THE LAWS IN YOUR STATE WHERE YOU LIVE before using extra power. With a couple of "BOB's in the boat you might actually need the 90 HP....This is not a particularly fast setup any way....
