WASHINGTON (AP) -- When Democrats blasted Republicans last fall for taking annual congressional pay raises while blocking numerous attempts to raise the minimum wage, it was an effective campaign tactic. Democrats vowed not to accept the annual cost-of-living hike until Congress increases the minimum wage.
But Republicans angered over the political attacks are unwilling to allow Democrats to reinstate the so-called members' COLA, forcing Democratic leaders to scuttle the 1.7 percent pay hike for the entire year.

"There will be no COLA adjustment," said a disappointed Steny Hoyer of Maryland, the House's No. 2 Democrat, on Tuesday.

Whoop-dee-effin'-doo.

What we need them to do is CUT their pay & eliminate their retirement plan & start contributing to SS the way the rest of us do. THAT would be a start.

How Congressional pay increases and minimum wage are related is beyond me. Oops-forgot, it's the class envy thing.

Maybe if we paid our representatives more, we would get better people.

They're now getting $165,200 plus a truckload of paid-for benefits. Just how much would you suggest we pay to get "better people"? Here's a novel idea. Maybe we should just vote better people in, ya' think?

Silly you. You think logic matters?

Yes, and it would also limit the impact of contributions and corruption, and it would eliminate the need to restrict my right to contribute as I choose.

That's the simple answer. Too bad it's not the doable one. The American public is disengaged and disinterested. Thus, we get what we get. A few more $$$ might attract some people that are interested in leaving a private career for a public one.

I cannot completely disagree. However, I do not want Donald Trump ( or Rosie, for that matter) electing him/herself.

You know what? I think Donald and Rosie are the same person.:^ Have you ever seen them together?

We'd still get to vote, we just wouldn't pay them. :p
