Resealing mercruiser outdrive - DIY or not?

I have a 1980 120 Mercruiser and noticed that it's starting to drip gear lube out the water intake on the outdrive so I've got a leaking seal somewhere. Is this a D.I.Y. job or better left to the pros? I'm a former auto mechanic and have the factory service manual. The manual isn't real clear on replacing seals, only complete overhaul.

If I remove the drive and take it in what should I expect to pay for resealing the drive and replacing the water pump impeller? Thanks

Resealing is not a really hard job but it does require some special tools to do the job.

As to how much, you should call some of the local shops in your area and ask.
