I just had my heads shaved ten thousands, my squash clearence is approximatly twenty to twenty five thousaneds, clearence between piston and head. I'm concerned because I can't find a spec on this. I'm holding off on running the engines untill I can get some advise on this. 1997 yamaha 200 saltwater series carb.

To be safe, back off your max timing by two degrees. That should help prevent detonation.

I would say basically you wasted your time and money.
Don't expect any major change in performance. What is your before and after compression?

Re: Reserfaced heads

Thanks for the replies. I'm in the automotive business and sent the heads to our machine shop for cleaning. The next thing I know they were reserfaced and sent back. I origininally just wanted to clean them, I was concerned that I may have created a problem.

I wen't ahead and reset the max timing per the admirial. I was having a overheat issue on one engine and thought it would be a good ideal to go ahead and pull all the heads, inspect and clean.

Any input would be apreciated.

Re: Reserfaced heads

That was enough to clean them up but not enough to make a noticable change in compression. Monitor the plugs and likely you will be better off to bring it back up for performance and fuel economy. Always a good safety measure when not sure is to drop the timing a couple of notches.
