Sorry if this is such a noob question but what is this reservoir circled in red used for on a 3.0 mercruiser? I know it's not the power steering fluid since that reservoir is on the actual pump.

That's the outdrive lube bottle. The hose on the bottom of the bottle goes to the outdrive. If the outdrive leaks lube or needs a bit more this bottle supplies it. It's also an indication if you need to refill you have a leak and need to check the drive. That said this is for the Gen 2 alpha drives, they are not one the alpha 1
